How we can work together on your memory quilt

There are many life stages where people might want to make a memory quilt. A wedding, children leaving home, a birth, a move to a new town or country, leaving a place of work… It can be a really beautiful way of marking a change and giving meaning to what has passed or is coming to be.

Often, a death is a particularly important time to reflect on a person and their life. Families and friends can be left with huge amounts of clothing and textiles and it feels wrong to part with these objects, but equally, it doesn’t feel right to leave them hidden away. The process of creating a quilt can be incredibly therapeutic, but what if you don’t have the skills or time to do it all yourself?

I work with people through zoom / phone calls to get a picture of the event or person they want to celebrate, and talk through fabrics and initial design ideas. They then send me their fabrics which I sit with for while to allow the fabrics to speak to me. Following this dreaming period, I will send a sketch, some photos or moodboard (or combination of all three) to my client. Once the design is agreed upon, I make the quilt and send it carefully packaged. Lead times are 4-8 weeks if I don’t have a waiting list, and prices start at £250 for something around 30x30cm, £500 for a wall hanging around 70x70cm, £900 for 100x120cm. Please get in touch to discuss anything bigger (or smaller!) - I am happy to make larger quilts to fit smaller budgets where there is need. The price and size will be agreed upon before I start the work to make sure the whole process is completely transparent.
